AUTHOR INTERVIEW

In your own words, can you tell me about the book?
Sure! Really, I just want it to be a time saver by being a reference guide for toddler activities. Normally as a mom, I think of a topic I want to teach my children, and then I spend 20 minutes searching online for different activities. The goal of this book is to skip the online searching to help save other moms time. I know not every activity will be a home run, but the book will still be a success as long as it can save a mom some precious time when she could be playing with their child.

Whats the hardest part about writing a book?
Oh thats easy! Sitting down and having a moment to think. Life can seem really hectic with our 3 young kids so finding a block of time to work and concentrate can be hard. I have had to become an early bird and get up at 4:30am so that I have a few hours to work in the morning before the kids get up. My husband has even had to take off work a few times to watch the kids so I would have a full day to work if I got behind. Theres also the mom guilt that comes with taking time away from my 3 blessings to focus on my writing.

What do you do when you arent writing or planning books?
I love to spend time with my children and family! We enjoy being silly or just vrooming cars around on the floor. I enjoy working out throughout the weekjust work out videos or yoga in the living room (My kids like to join in, or giggle at my silly moves). I also love spending time with my husband too! We are determined to get better at going on dates, and are starting to make sure we get at least one date a month.

4. Explosive Child, The: A New Approach For Understanding And Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children

Feature

The Explosive Child A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated Chronically Inflexible Children

Description

A groundbreaking approach to understanding and parenting children who frequently exhibit severe fits of temper and other intractable behaviors, from a distinguished clinician and pioneer in this field.

Whats an explosive child? A child who responds to routine problems with extreme frustrationcrying, screaming, swearing, kicking, hitting, biting, spitting, destroying property, and worse. A child whose frequent, severe outbursts leave his or her parents feeling frustrated, scared, worried, and desperate for help. Most of these parents have tried everything-reasoning, explaining, punishing, sticker charts, therapy, medicationbut to no avail. They cant figure out why their child acts the way he or she does; they wonder why the strategies that work for other kids dont work for theirs; and they dont know what to do instead.

Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids arent attention-seeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents arent passive, permissive pushovers. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting.

Throughout this compassionate, insightful, and practical book, Dr. Greene provides a new conceptual framework for understanding their difficulties, based on research in the neurosciences. He explains why traditional parenting and treatment often dont work with these children, and he describes what to do instead. Instead of relying on rewarding and punishing, Dr. Greenes Collaborative Problem Solving model promotes working with explosive children to solve the problems that precipitate explosive episodes, and teaching these kids the skills they lack.
